This series documents forest projects that offer hope and sustainable development. It shares its title with the book on which it is based, by the Swiss forestry expert Christian Küchli. Küchli spent a decade, beginning in the mid-1980s, researching such projects. Two episodes cover the Yasuni Indians in Ecuador, and inhabitants on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo in Indonesia respectively. These groups develop their own programs to protect forest environments in the face of the exploitative practices of oil companies and loggers. A third episode covers a women’s group in Kitui, Kenya, whose tree planting activities help combat desertification and secure their livelihoods. (Source: Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion)
