“Doom and gloom” has become the de facto cultural construct not only for environmental communication but for the environmental science it seeks to communicate. We are interested in engaging in deep conversation about what it means to shift beyond “doom and gloom,” and to create movement toward more hopeful, solutions-oriented environmental narratives.

Wild Earth 11, no. 3/4, on defining citizen science: its protagonists, sources, relevance and results, as well as a selection of new and old programs.
Wild Earth 12, no. 1, focuses on the causes, processes and recovery chances of biodiversity loss. It spotlights the Rocky Mountain locust, the passenger pigeon, wolves in Yellowstone, and the black-tailed prairie dog.
Wild Earth 14, no. 3/4, is the last issue of the Wild Earth Journal. It presents essays on connectivity and long-distance migration in human-fragmented landscapes, the Great Bear Rainforest archipelago, and rewilding Patagonia.
Wild Earth 10, no. 1, presents essays on the mission, vision, and purpose of “The Wildlands Project,” which aims “to design and implement systems of protected natural areas/wildlands networks across the continent.”
Wild Earth 10, no. 3 features essays on “little things”: the microbial microcosm, forgotten pollinators like birds and bats, the American burying beetle, and butterflies.
Wild Earth 10, no. 4 celebrates the journal’s 10-year anniversary with a retrospective of past highlights and many new contributions.
Wild Earth 10, no. 2 is dedicated to US national parks and protected areas. It also features articles by John Muir on anthropocentrism and James Morton Turner on early American environmentalism.
