US Green Building Council

Inspired by ideals from the US “green building” movement of the 1960s, the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), the world’s first association of architects focused on sustainable architecture, was founded in 1993. The organization is best known for its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification system and for its promotion of environmentally responsible building materials.
