EU's "three-pillar approach" to sustainability

With the Treaty of Amsterdam, the EU adopted a “three-pillar” model of sustainability at the Copenhagen Summit. The model links sustainability to ecological, economic, and social issues. It ties the preservation of nature to the well-being of future generations, economic achievements, and social institutions.
