The authors discuss a series of workshops held with residents of the ecovillage Sieben Linden to discuss what the idea of being a “model and research project” meant to them. Questions considered included: What is being modeled or researched? For whom or for what purpose do the model and the research serve? How should the model function, and how is the research conducted? As the discussion participants suggested, being a model would mean offering reproducible solutions to the challenge of sustainable lifestyles. The ecovillagers did not address to whom exactly they are trying to transfer ideas and practices, but instead expressed it as, “For whom? For the future!”
