8. Sept, Mo, [1930] abends. Kamarujuk. Nach der wundervollen gestrigen Propellerschlittenfahrt bin ich noch ganz hingerissen. Wir hatten zeitweise bei der Rückfahrt 70 km pro Stde., aber nur wenn die Bahn sehr glatt war. Zum Schluß rasende Fahrt – Endspurt! Abends kam Weicken mit 2 Grönländerschlitten, und mit diesen fuhr ich nachts bei Mondschein in abenteuerlicher Fahrt über die jetzt wieder ganz ausgeaperte Spaltenzone zum Hundestartplatz und mit einem Schlitten von da weiter durch Scheideck. Kurz vor Scheideck glitt der Schlitten in eine Bachrinne, es ist da schon durchzukommen. Heute sprach ich beim Abstieg John und Gudmund; John glaubt auch ohne Lissey künftig auszukommen, da er 2 Grönländer beim Pferdeführen angelernt hat. Lissey soll in einigen Tagen zu dem Propellerschlitten als 4. Mann

Monday, 8 September, [1930]. Evening, Kamarujuk: I’m still enchanted by yesterday’s wonderful sled ride. At some points on the return trip, we were traveling at 70 km per hour, but only where the terrain was very smooth. At the end, we were really racing to the finish line! In the evening, Weiken arrived with 2 Greenland sleds, and on these, I had a moonlight adventure across the now entirely cleared crevasse-zone to the dog’s starting point, and then with one of the sleds further on to Scheideck. Shortly before we reached Scheideck, the sled slid into a stream channel, it’s difficult to get through it. Today I spoke with John and Gudmund; John thinks that he will be able to manage without Lissey, since he trained 2 Greenlanders to drive the horses.
In a couple of days, Lissey is to replace Weiken as the 4th man
