[128] Towards the end of the journey, the fjord was blocked by screw ice. It transpired that it was an inland ice tongue which was pushing its way into the fjord from the S. Thostrup remained on this side, we set up camp on land. Dark brown primary rock, crimpy-textured. The screw ice continued along the shore here parallel to the land. Doubt as to whether we should continue. Thostrup did not want to venture onto the ice sheet. Snowy conditions to boot. Observation, long reconnaissance trips in the softened * [snow] extremely exhausting. For this reason too little sleep and food. On my advice, the journey continued the next day across the ice sheet. Nodular at the edges (melting). Further towards the interior covered with * [snow], but difficult to make progress. Light conditions extremely hard on the eyes. Snow goggles and painful eyes,
