[101] fahren. Nach erfolgter Messung wird dann jedesmal die Tiefe der Thermometerkugel bis auf den cm genau mit dem Meßband ausgemessen, wodurch die oben genannte Fehlerquelle vermieden wird. Auch kann die ganze Messungsreihe jetzt mit demselben Thermometer ausgeführt werden, wodurch sie mehr homogen wird. – Ich nahm schließlich noch 2 Photographen von der an der Wand des Grabeblockes sichtbaren Firnschichtung, nachdem ich letztere durch Bearbeitung mit der Zeltbürste (! Aber mit großartiger Wirkung) deutlich gemacht hatte. Hoffentlich taugen diese Aufnahmen; das Motiv war sehr instruktiv. – Wir sind jetzt am Abend ziemlich kaputt von diesem „Rast“-tag, aber auch zufrieden mit der wissenschaftlichen Ausbeute. Morgen soll nun die neue Reise-Methode, mit dem letzten Pferde und nur einem Schlitten, den wir alle mit ziehen helfen, probiert werden. Wir rechnen nur noch mit 2 Rastlagern auf dem

Also, all ranges of measurement can be executed with the same thermometer, making the results more homogenous. – At the end I took 2 photographs of the visible firn layers on the wall of the hole, after I had cleaned it with the tent brush (! but with excellent effect).
