[107] Jagd ist ja auch erbärmlich genug. Verbindung mit Mörkefjord bekommen wir anscheinend gar nicht, das Eis liegt noch gänzlich ungebrochen etwa ½ Meile weit, und das ganze Meer zwischen der Koldewey-Insel und dem Festlande ist noch vollständig mit Wintereis bedeckt. Diese wenigen Risse, die hindurchgehen, werden nun schon vom Neueis wieder zugeklebt, und es ist wohl keine Besserung mehr zu erwarten.

27. August [1907]. Das Neueis, das einen Großteil des Hafens deckt, ist nun schon so stark, daß man darauf stehen kann. Indessen ist heute ein Umschlag im Wetter eingetreten, in dem Westwind aufkommt mit positiven Temperaturen. Das Motorboot erweist sich auch in diesem ungünstigen Sommer als äußerst wertvoll. Es ist überhaupt das einzige Fahrzeug,

It seems that we will not get a connection with Mörke Fjord at all, as the ice is still lying completely unbroken about ½ [German] mile wide, and the entire stretch of ocean between Koldewey Island and the mainland is still fully covered with winter ice.
