Zieht diese Ebene von SE her herauf, so zeigen sich alle Phänomene des Nordlichts. Der untere Rand des Nordlichts ist scharf, der obere verliert sich. Ist der Unterrand eine Gerade parallel der Erdoberfl., so erscheint er gleichwohl perspektivisch als Bogen. Da das Nordlicht nicht unendlich dünn ist, so erscheinen die parallelen Strahlen als Krone, sobald das Phänomen über das Zenith geht. Ferner ist die Ebene nicht streng gemacht. Die Fläche ist vielfach ausgebuchtet und gefaltet. Diese Falten können nach rechts und nach links wandern, können das Band ganz zerreißen und ein Stück ganz aufrollen u. ähnliches. Unabhängig hingegen ist die Wanderung der Lichteffekte, die sich von Strahl zu Strahl mitteilen, so daß das Lichtmaximum innerhalb

If this plane comes up from the SE, all phenomena of the northern lights can be seen. The lower edge of the northern lights is clearly defined, while the upper edge dissipates. When the lower edge forms a straight line parallel to the Earth’s surface, it nonetheless appears to be a curve due to the perspective. Since the northern lights are incredibly thin, the parallel rays appear to form a crown as soon as the phenomenon passes over the zenith. The surface is not strictly level. The surface is full of many dimples and folds. These folds can shift to the left or the right, can rip the line completely and roll back one section entirely, and other similar things. The light effects, however, travel independently and pass from ray to ray, meaning that the maximum amount of light varies during
